Picking the Correct Car Seat for Your Child

carseatFinding the right car seat for your child seems like it would be an easy task – until you actually have to go out and do it.  With so many options available, you may not know exactly what you should be looking for in a seat.  What makes a car seat good?  What one will protect your most precious little bundle on all those trips to grandma’s house or the supermarket?  Some things you want to look for:

  • A seat that fits your child properly. Children are built differently.  That’s what makes everyone unique.  Even though your sister swears by the seat she uses for her daughter, it may not be the right fit for your bigger son who is the same age.
  • A seat that fits your vehicle properly. You may have found the perfect seat for your coupe, but don’t just buy two and expect that second seat to fit the same way in your wife’s SUV.  Test each east out in the vehicle it will be used.
  • A seat that is easy to use. This may be the most important thing to remember.  If you have trouble buckling a seat in the store, it most likely will not get any easier when you bring it home.  Remember that you may be buckling a fussy child with your hands full on more than one occasion.  Make sure you can do it safely and properly before you make the big purchase.
